Top classic car clubs in Australia, by state

Short answer

Most Australian classic car clubs belong to a state council, and the councils sit under the Australian Historic Motoring Federation (AHMF). Start with your state's council. It can point you to a marque or local club that's right for your car, and many clubs can sign you up for historic or club registration.

National

  • Australian Historic Motoring Federation (AHMF): the national peak body. It says its member councils represent 1,000+ clubs and close to 100,000 enthusiasts.

New South Wales

  • Council of Motor Clubs NSW (CMC): formed in 1963 by five Sydney clubs
  • Council of Heritage Motor Clubs NSW (CHMC, 'The Bush Council'): regional clubs, formed in 1970
  • NSW Historic Motoring Association (NSWHMA): an Approved Organisation for the NSW historic and classic schemes

Victoria

  • Association of Motoring Clubs (AOMC)
  • Federation of Veteran, Vintage & Classic Vehicle Clubs (Victoria)

Queensland

  • Queensland Historic Motoring Council (QHMC)

South Australia

  • Federation of Historic Motoring Clubs of SA (FHMC SA): defines 'historic' as 30+ years since 1 January of the year of manufacture

Western Australia

  • Council of Motoring Clubs WA

ACT, Tasmania and Northern Territory

  • ACT: Council of ACT Motor Clubs
  • Tasmania and NT: AHMF currently lists no state or territory council, so contact a local marque club directly

Then find your marque club

Marque clubs (Porsche, Jaguar, Holden, Ford, MG and so on) usually know the most about values, parts and history for one make. Your state council's club list is the quickest way to find the right one.
